Lord Suryanarayan or the God of Sun is the Supreme Power among the Navagraha. The word Navagraha comes from the Sanskrit words nava and graha. According to Hinduism, the Navagraha are nine heavenly divine bodies and deities that impact human existence on Earth. They act on every person’s both good and bad acts in the past and present birth cycles.
The sun (Surya), the moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangala), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Brihaspati), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), Rahu (moon’s north node) and Ketu (moon’s south node) are among them. They do not include the planets Earth, Uranus, or Neptune. The Sun is the main part of the Navagraha. The Hindu calendar’s seven days of the week correspond to the Navagraha and are termed similarly in various Indian languages. Navagraha are worshiped in most Indian temples.

Other names of Sun are Nishikanta, Dinesh, Rathanga, Bhaskar, Prabhakar, Dibakar, Nirakar, Aditya, Arka, Bhanu and Rabi. The son of sage Kashyapa and Aditi is Sun. Surya’s three queens are Saranyu, Ragyi and Prabha. Sons of God Sun are Vaivasvata, Manu, Yama Suvarchala , Yami, Ashvins, Revanta, Shani,  Tapati, Savarni Manu, Sugriva, and Karna.

In Aditya Lok, there is a corporeal Deity of Lord Suryanarayan. He is seated on a lotus flower and has four arms. He always holds the Padma in two arms and two hands are adorned with Abhaya and Varamudra. He is situated in a Saptashvayukta chariot.

Lord Suryanarayan has four arms, two of which bear lotuses, one a charioteer, and the fourth a chakra as frequently shown. He always seated on a chariot drawn by seven horses, which represents the dividing of white sunlight into the seven VIBGYOR spectrum colours. Surya’s day is Sunday, which is named Ravivaar in Hindi and literally translates to “Sun’s day.”
Lord Suryanarayan’s colours are orange and gold . For invoke Surya’s blessings one must pray to him by pouring water from a vessel onto him. Surya represents attributes like leadership, ego, strength, authority and vigour.

Forms of Lord Suryanaryan

God Suryanarayan is the principal deity, the form of light. In the Upanishads, there are three forms of Lord Surya – (1) Nirguna, Nirkar, (2) Saguna formless and (3) Saguna formar. Although the Sun is formless and has a sagun form in relation to its illusory power.

Lord suryanarayan in Vedas and Upanishad

In the Vedas, the Sun is called the soul of the world. The soul of the entire past world is the Sun. There is life on this earth only from the sun, it is a universal truth today. In the Vedic period, the Aryans considered the Sun to be the creator of the whole world. The meaning of Surya is all-motivator. It is all-publisher, all-promoter because it is all-beneficial. Surya has an important place among the deities of Rigveda. Yajurveda has considered the Sun as the eye of God by saying “Chaksho Suryo Jayat”.

In the Chandogya Upanishad, the Sun is described as Pranava and the benefit of having a son has been told by his meditation. The Brahmavairvata Purana considers the Sun to be a divine form. The famous Gayatri Mantra is Surya Park. In the Surya Upanishad, the Sun is the only reason for the origin of the entire universe. And he is described as the soul and Brahman of the whole world.

According to the Shruti of Surya Upanishad, the whole world is created and maintained by the Sun. The Sun is the soul of the entire universe. Therefore, it is not surprising that since the Vedic period, sun worship has been practiced in India. Earlier this sun worship was done with mantras. Later on idol worship became popular and sun temples were built everywhere. In the Bhavishya Purana, the importance of Sun worship and temple construction is explained in a dialogue between Brahma Vishnu.

Mythological Story related to Lord Suryanarayan

This story is also found in many Puranas, that due to the curse of sage Durvasa, Shri Krishna’s son Samba, who was suffering from leprosy, got rid of this terrible disease by worshiping the sun. In ancient times, many temples of Lord Surya were built in India. Some of them are world famous today. Not only in Vedic literature, but in Ayurveda, astrology, palmistry, the importance of Sun has been propounded.

There is a poignant description of the form of the Sun in the Upanishads: – ‘Those who burn the Sun in the sky should be worshipped.’ It is said that the Sun is a visible deity. He is the eye of the whole world. It is from these that the day is created.

Why Lord Suryanarayan is Supreme God?

There is no deity more constant than him. From these the world is born and in the end time the rhythm is attained in them. This period with the signs of action etc. has also been called Diwakar. All the planets-constellations, karnas, yogas, zodiac signs, Aditya Gana, Vasugana, Rudra, Ashwini Kumar, Vayu, Agni, Venus, Prajapati, all Bhubhuva: self, the original world, the entire naga (mountain), serpents, rivers, oceans and There is a community of all the ghosts, Diwakar is the cause of all these.

From these the world remains established, it is inclined to its meaning and appears to be trying. When it rises, everyone rises and when it sets, all disappears. This means that there has not been a superior deity from them, nor will there be in the future.

Lord Suryanarayan in Purans and Vedas

Therefore in all the Vedas he is called by the name of God. In history and Puranas, they have been designated by the name ‘Antaratma’, as Vaikuntha is the place of Lord Vishnu, Kailash of Bhutabhavan Shankar and Brahmaloka is the place of Chaturmukh Brahma. Similarly, the place of Bhuvan Bhaskar Sun is Adityalok Surya Mandal.

Often people consider Surya Mandal and Suryanarayana to be the same. Sun is the originator of Kalachakra, the division of day and night, Ghati, Pal, Month, Ayan and Samvat etc. The Sun is the illuminator of the whole world. Without them everything is darkness. The sun is life, radiance, energy, strength, fame, eyes, soul and mind.

Those worshipers who worship such Lord Surya, they get the desired results. Lord Surya himself fulfills the wish of his worshiper by appearing in front of the worshiper. By his grace, all the sins of man’s mental, verbal and physical are destroyed.

Lord Surya is unborn

Lord Surya is unborn, yet there is a curiosity as to how he was born. Where did it happen and by whom? There is an incarnation of God. There is a story in this regard in the Puranas.

Once in a battle, the demons and demons together defeated the gods, since then the gods were constantly trying to protect their reputation. Aditi Prajapati, the mother of the gods was the daughter of Daksha. He was married to Maharishi Kashyap.

Extremely saddened by the loss of her sons, she started worshiping Surya – ‘O Lord, who has mercy on the devotees! The kingdom and sacrifice of my sons have been snatched by the demons and demons. You protect your sons by appearing from my womb with your share.’

Lord Surya was pleased, ‘Goddess! I will protect your sons, having appeared from your womb with my thousandth part, saying this, I became intrigued. After getting the time, Lord Surya was born from the womb of Aditi. This incarnation is called by the name of Martanda. The gods were very happy to have Lord Surya as their brother.
