A stormy love affair between a deceitful lady and a roguish man takes place in the American south at the time of the Civil War and Reconstruction. This story is considered to be an American classic. When it was initially published, Gone with the Wind had massive levels of success. It was the highest-grossing film that had ever been produced at the time, and it continued to hold that record for well over a quarter of a century. It is still the highest-grossing picture in history after accounting for the effects of inflation on the value of money.
