On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, older people, the people who take care of them, and the government all work together to stop elder abuse. The United Nations (UN) has designated June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

- Established-June 2006. The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), which founded the memorial in June 2006, requested recognition from the UN General Assembly in its December 2011 resolution 66/127.

- Purpose-WEAAD helps communities worldwide comprehend elder abuse and neglect by improving knowledge of cultural, social, economic, and demographic factors.

- Colour– Purple. The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day symbol is a purple awareness ribbon.
- Activities-Conferences, seminars, workshops, awareness campaigns, and outreach programmes engage the public, professionals, and policymakers in elder abuse prevention.
