Kolar Gold Fields

The Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) also known as ‘Little England’ is a mining area in Karnataka’s Kolar District, around 100 kilometres south of Bengaluru. It is headquartered in Robertsonpet, where employees of Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML) and BEML Limited (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited).

History of KGF

Gold has been mined there for over 2000 years, and while many people have tried their luck at finding gold throughout history. The community has a long history of gold mining. Despite the presence of gold, the mine closed on February 28, 2001 due to a drop in gold prices. In 1889, one of India’s first power plants was developed to serve mining operations. Between the 1960s and 1992, the mine complex hosted some particle physics experiments.

KGF Movie

Kolar Gold Field’s modern success is generally attributed to the firm John Taylor & Sons, which took control of the mines in 1880 and established what was once the world’s deepest and most productive gold mine. The mines were operated by the firm until 1956, when they were taken over by the Government of Mysore, who hired mining consultants John Taylor & Sons.
