World Water Day is an annual observance established by the United Nations (UN) that takes place on March 22nd, emphasizing the significance of freshwater. This day serves as a platform to promote the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year, the theme centers on issues related to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), aligning with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal. History of World Water Day
The formal introduction of this day occurred in Agenda 21 during the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro. Subsequently, in December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution A/RES/47/193, designating March 22 of each year as World Water Day.
