Details about Panchalingeswar Lord Shiva Temple, Balasore

  • By Train-The nearest railway station is Balasore 30 km which is well connected to all major cities.
  • On Road -Road access to Panchalingeswar is excellent. Buses, taxis, and other forms of public transportation go regularly between Balasore Town and Panchalingeswar. Balasore Town is 30 kilometres away.

Its five Shivalinga that are housed inside gave rise to its moniker. The temple is perched atop a mound close to Nilagiri Hill. The wife of Lord Rama, Sita, is credited with enshrining the Shivalingas during their exile. Another legend claims that because of this location’s beauty, King Banasura revered the Swayambhu Lingas there.

However, King Krishna Chandra Mardaraj Harichandan, the son of King Gobinda Chandra Mardaraj Harichandan, made the discovery. The monarch travelled to this location in pursuit of the five lingas that Lord Shiva had mentioned in Queen Arnapurna Devi, his consort.
