The presiding god of Sambalpur, Maa Samaleswari, is a powerful religious devi in western Odisha and Chhattisgarh, India. It is a famous Shakti Peetha. On the banks of the Mahanadi River, the mother goddess Samaleswari has been worshipped as Jagatjanani, Adishakti, Mahalaxmi, and Mahasaraswati since ancient times. The temple’s surrounding area has a diverse cultural legacy. Since ancient times, the Sambalpur region has been known as Hirakhanda.

Maa Samaleswari Temple is a Hindu temple located at Ray Pada, Khetrajpur, Samabalpur District of Odisha, on the Eastern coast of india. The temple is reachable by the roads 3.5Km from Distrct Headquarter and 275km from Bhubaneswar respectively and is well connected by roads. The nearest railway station is Bagdihi and the nearest airport is also Bhubaneswar (300 Km) and Raipur (265 Km). Balram Dev, the first Chauhan King of Sambalpur constructed Maa Samaleswari temple in the 16th century.
