About the Maa Kanaka Durga Temple
Sri Kanaka Durgamma Devasthanam or Maa Kanaka Durga is the presiding deity of Vijayawada. The ancient temple of Kanaka Durga is situated at top the Indrakeeladri hill on the banks of the Sacred river Krishna in Vijayawada. Thousands of pilgrims come to visit during the “Navarathri” festivals for taking blessing of Maa. Indrakeeladri is special in that it was chosen as the Swayambhu home of Maa Kanaka Durga and Malleswara. Durga is on the right side of Malleswara.
How to reach the Maa Kanaka Durga Temple, Vijayawada
Located in the heart of Vijayawada city, the temple is just a 10 minutes drive from the railway station and Bus stand and about 20 km from airport. It is well connected by road, rail and air from all parts of the country.
- By Road – Temple buses are available at bus stand and railway station for every 20 minutes. Vijayawada is located 275 kilometers from Hyderabad.
- By Railway -Vijayawada Station.

Sakambhari Festival, Sakambhari or Banasankari Amma
In Ashadha month, the annual Sakambhari festival is observed. Maa Kanaka Durga takes the shape of Sakambhari or Banasankari Amma of the Banashankari Amma Temple during the three-day festival, and prayers are offered to the Goddess to bless all crops, agriculture, and food so that they are numerous and capable of supporting the multitude. Every year, the Sakambari festival is held from Sukla Paksha Thrayodashi until Purnima in the Ashadha month.
