Purna Kalasha Sthapana: Bidhi & Benefits

Kalasha also spelled as Kalash or kalasa. It is also called as Ghat or ghat. It’s a metal made with (brass, copper, silver, or gold) pot or pot made with earthen with a wide base and a narrow mouth that can hold a coconut and mango leaves and filled with water.

The Purna-Kalasha is revered as a mother goddess or Devi in all Hindu ceremonies involving .

  • All Festivals and rituals of Hindu.
  • Havan or Homa.
  • Vastu dosha.
  • Marriage.
  • Childbirth and thread ceremony.
  • Griha Prabesh or home entry.
  • On all significant events, a kalash is installed with the appropriate rites. As a welcome sign, it is placed near the door.

Purna Kalasha

It is also called as Purna-Kumbha or Purna-ghat. A pot filled with water and topped with a coronet of mango leaves and a coconut and put on the rice is sometimes referred to as a “kalasha.” This combination is frequently shown in Hindu function and ceremonies at Home or Temple. A silver or brass visage of the Goddess is sometimes affixed to the Purna-coconut.

Kalasha Sthapana Bidhi

  • It is filled with coins, grain, gems, gold with water.
  • The water may be nearby holy river or spring or any other sacred place.
  • Coronet of Mango leaves with 5, 7 or 11 leaves.
  • In the Kalasha coronet of mango leaves should be positioned such that the leaves’ tips contact the water.
  • Some times Barkoli leaves, grass and leaves of 5 or 7 sacred trees are placed.
  • Chandan, Kajol , Red Kumkum with pure ghee are also applied.
  • The top of the coconut known as Shira – literally “head” is left uncovered. The Shira is always held up to the sky.
  • It is wrapped in red linen and thread.
  • The metal pot is wrapped in a sacred thread.
  • After preparing all the above things, first of all clean the ground thoroughly with sacred water and place a pot of earthen or metal barley on it. Place an earthen pot on top of it and then place coconut on the lid of the vase.

Kalasha Sthapana in Hindusim

According to the Vedas, the Purna-Kalasha is a sign of abundance and “spring of life.” Purna-Kumbha is a Vedic pattern that has been around since the Rigveda period. Soma-Kalasha, Chandra-Kalasha, Indra-Kumbha, Purnaghata, Purna-Virakamsya, Bhadra ghata, and Mangala ghata are some of the other names for this ghata. The Vedas call it purno-asya Kalasha, which means “overflowing full vase.”

The Kalasha is regarded as a symbol of riches, wisdom, and longevity because it is said to contain amrita, the elixir of life. In Hindu iconography, the Kalasha is frequently represented as an attribute in the hands of Hindu deities such as Brahma, Shiva, and Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.
