The ICC Champions Trophy is a distinguished one-day international knockout competition that was established by the ICC in 1998. Subsequently, the tournament was referred to as the ICC Knockout Tournament, and from 2002 onwards, it adopted the name ICC Champions Trophy. In 1998, the ICC launched the ICC Champions Trophy, a renowned one-day international knockout competition. The ICC Knockout Tournament was its previous moniker. In 1998, this competition was originally played in Bangladesh as the Wills International Cup.
Later on, the competition was called the ICC Knockout Tournament. It was renamed the ICC Champions Trophy starting in 2002. In 2009, a regulation was implemented that limited the tournament to the top eight clubs.
Following the 2017 competition, it was canceled. The ICC declared in 2021 that the Champions Trophy would be held in India in 2029 and in Pakistan in 2025.
