Entry Point to Bhitarakanika – A Beauty Place to Visit

The old Kanika Estate had authority over Entry Point to Bhitarakanika. It was declared a refuge on April 21, 1975, and is surrounded by dense mangrove forests and saline rivers. It is well-known for its natural crocodile breeding.

Entry Point to Bhitarakanika

The national park is located in the estuarial region of Brahmani – Baitarani, in the north eastern part of Kendrapara districts and spans 672 square kilometres of mangrove forests and wetlands. With the Bay of Bengal on the east, it is traversed by a dense network of brooks.

Birds migrate thousands of miles to Bhitar Kanika to escape the harsh winter in Ladakh, ManoSarovar, Himalayan region, Siberia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Northen Asia, and some central European countries because the park provides a congenial atmosphere and serene, pollution-free environment.

In August 2002, the area was classified as the state’s second Ramsar Site. It is a unique location with a diverse range of eco systems, including landmass, deltaic water bodies, estuaries, and territorial seas of the Bay of Bengal, as well as their associated flora and fauna.

  • By Air-Nearest Air Port : Biju Patanaik Air Port, Bhubaneswar – 132 KM, to Chandabali , Entry Point to Bhitara Kanika.
  • By Train-Nearest Railway Station : Bhadrak Railway Station – 55 KM to Chandabali ,Entry Point to Bhitara Kanika.
  • On Road-Bus facility available from Kolkata, Balasore, Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar etc. Cabs, auto also available.

  • Rate per sortie for day visitors from Chandabali to Dangmal Rs- 4000/-
  • Rate per sortie for day visitors from Chandabali to Dangmal including night halt-Rs-4500/-
  • Each boat can carry 18 persons with two crew members.
  • Cost of entry passes is regulated as per notification No.FE-WL-WLF-0052-2015 2340 dated 08.02.2016 of the F&E Dept.
