El Nino vs. La Nina
We have all heard that when the ocean temperature increases or becomes too hot, it is called ‘El Nino’, which causes droughts. But do you know what the process responsible for more rain and severe cold is called?
That is La Nina’! Let’s easily understand the difference between the two:
1. El Nino:
Situation: The waters of the Pacific Ocean become unusually warm.
Effect: The monsoon winds weaken, rainfall decreases, and extreme heat and drought conditions occur.
2. La Niña:
Situation: The waters of the Pacific Ocean become much colder than normal.
Effect: The monsoon winds become stronger. This results in heavy rainfall (flooding in some places) and severe morning cold in winter.
